Swizz Beatz in a very open interview to OK Magazine recently dispelled rumors that the couple is getting married this weekend, but says that it’s coming and coming pretty fast. As for wedding planning, Swizz makes sure that he’s not going to just “show up”, but that he’s going to have a big hand in planning the festivities.
“Yeah, you know, I’m a planner! I like getting into the detail of things. I’m inspired by fashion, I’m inspired by art, I’m inspired by architectural things so [I like] being involved with the wedding. I’m not the person who sits back and goes, okay, well I’ll just show up. I’m actually spearheading certain plans but it’s a nice blend, a nice partnership.”
While this may have some women swooning over how he’s such a “perfect” guy, let’s not lose sight of his wife and kids that he kicked to the curb to be with Alicia. No one is perfect, but let’s not get caught up in romance. I’m happy for them, but it seems a little too quick to be a fairy tale story. We all love happy endings, but one very positive thing is that he’s keeping the kids at bay and doing his best to keep the environment positive around the kids from both women at all times. Congratulations, but slow the train for your own mental health.
This past weekend was a tad strange because there must have been some deal on wedding favors or something because the celebrities ran to the altar to hitch the wagon in droves. Among them were;
Martin Lawrence and Shamicka Gibbs
Martin Lawrence, 45 tied the knot with longtime girlfriend Shamicka Gibbs, 35, this weekend. This couple has been together for over a decade which is amazing. Considering that Martin has been in tough relationships before, it was probably a very scary move for him. The couple decided to hold the ceremony in his backyard and in attendance were some very notable guests such as Eddie Murphy, Denzel Washington and others. The couples 3 daughters were all flower girls including 9 year old Amara, 7 year old Iyana and 14 year old Jasmine from Lawrence’s previous marriage. They kept it very intimate and held the reception on the Beverly Hills property as well.
John Krasinski and Emily Blunt
In a much more extravagant wedding, John Krasinski (from The Office), 30, and Emily Blunt (from The Devil Wears Prada), 27, exchanged vows in Villa D’este in Como, Italy. The bride adorned a 3 carat Edwardian and platinum diamond ring that costs somewhere in the vicinity of $100,000. According to UsMagazine, she wore a “cream, chiffon, sweetheart-draped Marchesa gown with embroidered detail.” Unlike the Lawrence’s above, this couple have only known each other since 2008, but they’ve been a couple ever since. They have apparently been holed up in George Clooney’s villa in Italy since the 4th of July weekend getting all of the arrangements together. George and John shared the screen in Leatherheads and he was also in attendance at the wedding with his girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis. John noted that the wedding on The Office was a great way to have a practice run through of the real thing.
Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher
Top 40 Grammy winning country megastar Carrie Underwood, 27, said “I Do” to Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher, 30, in a ceremony in Greensboro, Georgia. The event that apparently cost somewhere in the vicinity of a half a million dollars took place under a lakeside tent. Probably doesn’t matter though since People magazine was rumored to have paid $2 million dollars to have exclusive access to the event. Guess we know what the next cover will be for People magazine. The wedding took place in Greensboro, GA at Reynolds Plantation. Carrie was said to have worn a Chantilly lace Monique Lhuillier gown and Monique also designed the bridesmaid dresses as well. The couple was spotted at LAX for their honeymoon that is to take place in Bora Bora and Tahiti.
Carmelo Anthony and LaLa Vazquez
The names may not be familiar to some, but sports fans definitely know Carmelo Anthony,26, as one of the many stars from the Denver Nuggets. LaLa Vasquez, 31, has been in many film and TV roles including Soul Plane and You Got Served, but was also on many TV shows like Charm School with Ricki Lake, Flava Of Love, I Love New York 2, etc. Yeah, those shows. The wedding took place in Manhattan and was heavily attended by many NBA players including LeBron James who was boo’ed when he arrived. But the stars were out as also in attendance were Justin Timberlake, Spike Lee, Kim Kardashian (with hubbie Lamar Odom), Serena Williams, Ludacris and many others. According to CBS News, the wedding “featured towering marble columns and chandeliers, and was decorated using red tablecloths, centerpieces of red Ecuadorian roses, hundreds of candles and thousands of red roses hanging from the high ceiling.” And if that doesn’t seem over the top, the couple, who have been engaged since 2004, sent out red and gold invitations that were decorated with Swarovski crystals and delivered in a black box featuring their initials. Good God.
As you know, we try and find the most intriguing wedding engagements of your favorite celebrities to see if any of it is true. We try to be as good as Get Married’s Wedding Dish, but that’s a heck of a pinnacle to reach. But we’ll try for now.

1) Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz
We covered this previously a couple of weeks ago and we said that not only was singer/pianist Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz engaged, but that she also looked pregnant to us. We were right! I love it when we’re right. This will be Swizz Beatz second marriage. His first marriage just recently came to an end and he has a child from the relationship. The ink on his first divorce is barely dry, but if you’re going to have a fall back girl, Alicia Keys is a fantastic catch. Alicia has never been previously married, but also has never been pregnant. We’re sure that the two will make beautiful music together both in and out of the studio, but it’s still shocking that she accepted all of the drama that will come with this. The couple will get married in France this coming July.
2) Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton
Country music has its collection of hot women and hot guys, but no one saw that two of their hottest stars would decide that they needed to be together. So is the case with Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton who quietly got engaged last month in the, um,…woods. Blake proposed to Miranda while they were in the woods in Tishomingo, Oklahoma which is where she lives. See? I told you people actually lived in Oklahoma. In towns called Tishomingo. Either way, the couple did the dating thing behind the curtains and when they came out, they were happily engaged to be married. No wedding date has been set and the engagement is confirmed by both parties.
3) Joanna Garcia and Nick Swisher
The Gossip Girl’s Joanna Garcia aka Bree Buckley, gets engaged to NY Yankee outfielder Nick Swisher aka Nick Swisher. It apparently happened a month ago and they attempted to keep it quiet, but Joanna couldn’t keep a very good secret as she started going out and about with that huge rock on her finger. Garcia is obviously a hot commodity since she was previously engaged to Justin Timberlake’s business partner Trace Ayala. Not certain what happened there, but it appears that it didn’t work out for them. Either way, Joanna and Nick have been together since September of last year and it looks like it is ON! Just like that huge rock on her wedding digit.

4) Bonnie Wright and Jamie Campbell Bower
Their real names may not be familiar to many, but their characters are. Bonnie Wright plays Ginny Weasley in the uber-popular Harry Potter movies and Jamie Campbell Bower plays Caius in the Twilight Series: New Moon film. Now that we’re on the same page, the more shocking revelation is that Bonnie Wright is a mere 19 years old. While that may be “over the hill” in a secluded Indian tribe, it’s kind of scary in the normal populated world. But love is love and they certainly are financially stable enough to support themselves, so go on you crazy kids. As long as you don’t have to live in your parents basement, knock yourselves out. Their relationship began in October of 2009 and it’s believed that Jamie proposed back in April although it’s just coming to light now. Sources close to the couple say that they are madly in love. And for those of us who are over 40, we can now roll our eyes as we recall how madly in love we would get back in our teens. I barely remember names. Not saying that it’s not the real deal, but a step on the brakes may be appropriate to slow this bus down a little. Stay engaged until you’re old enough to legally have a drink with the girls and then make that jump. Either way, they are engaged and on our list.
5) Valerie Bertinelli and Tom Vitale
After a long abusive and drug riddled marriage to rocker Eddie Van Halen, Valerie Bertinelli filed for divorce and walked away from over 2 and half decades of a marriage that most of America saw as a match made in idol heaven. The world’s most well known rock guitarist married to the world’s best known TV actress (at the time). I personally think that she is still mega hot. As we covered a couple of weeks back, after the divorce, Valerie then began a relationship with Tom Vitale who was her financial planner. That’s a good person to have on your side in a divorce of that magnitude. Tom proposed to Valerie during a trip they took to Florence Italy. He was extremely nervous even though he had no reason to be since Valerie was extremely excited and quickly accepted. No decisions have been made as to when or where the two will tie the knot, but Valerie is certainly ready for a fresh new start and Valerie says that Tom will do most of the wedding planning since he’s very into that and probably wants to keep an eye on the purse strings.
Sometimes a couple is together for so long that you simply just can’t see them with anyone else. Such is the case with Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen who were married for over 25 years until their official divorce in 2007 even though the papers were filed two years prior in 2005. The demise was primarily due to Eddie’s addiction to Coke which was the ultimatum set by Valerie. Eddie chose the Coke.
While Eddie wrestled his demons, Valerie had begun a relationship with her financial planner Tom Vitale in 2004. A disturbingly convenient person to have on your side during a divorce for sure. The relationship blossomed and as of yesterday during a trip to Florence, Italy, Tom proposed and Valerie accepted. Valerie told the press, “We’d talked about getting married, but I was still shocked. It was sweet when he asked me, because he was so scared. I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?'”
Tom will do the wedding planning since apparently he even has specific ideas about what type of bells should ring during the ceremony. Now that is a man in touch with his feminine side for sure. He was deathly nervous about asking her stating that, “If the time wasn’t right, I wouldn’t have asked. We’re both still a little afraid of commitment, but then we were over there, and it was like our souls were calibrated.” So ladies and gentlemen, a big congratulations are in order because Valerie, you deserve it!
Well, the rumor mills they are a spinning and sometimes you just have to wonder what goes on in people’s minds. Alicia Keys, one of the most talented and beautiful women in music is rumored to be pregnant with her first child courtesy of a hip hop master Swizz Beatz. Swizz Beatz apparently also proposed to her and she accepted. Rumors are swirling that the two will be married in July in Dubai or France that will be attended by an exclusive guest list.
The main problem with this is that Swizz Beatz is fresh out a divorce that isn’t really all worked out yet with regular arguments about child support still coming up. Photos are all over the place as late as September of last year with him and his wife and child that appear to be happy and calm. But his relationship with Alicia was announced back in May of last year even though he tried to keep it on the “down low”.
The other big question is what exactly is Alicia thinking with Swizz Beatz as her choice for husband material. A woman who could have pretty much any man that she wants has chosen a man that was married with kids. Sure, that happens all of the time, but why voluntarily subscribe to all of the drama when your choices are all over the map? And the pregnancy rumor started when she appeared at a radio station interview in a maternity shirt. So a July wedding would make perfect sense to make sure the baby is born in wedlock. But again, just what the heck is going on here? What do you think about this craziness?
Ipod weddings are simply disastrous. I spent some time up in North Carolina where I was witness to not one, not two, but three beach weddings. Yes, three weddings. Two of which decided to go the Ipod route and both of those weddings were disastrous from an audio perspective, but Wedding 3 opted for a ceremony guitarist and live DJ through a PA and it went flawlessly. I understand the desire for brides to cut corners and save money on their weddings, but the beach brings additional elements that people just don’t understand and seem to be oblivious to.
The first thing to know about a beach wedding is that it’s the one place in the world that can be loud and relaxing at the same time. You will almost never use those two words in the same sentence and the beach is the only place where it certainly rings true. The waves crashing on the beach can be very loud, very relaxing, but also create an audio nightmare.
The bride decided to use an Ipod and instead of a PA to patch it through, she used one of those bedside units that you put your Ipod into and set on your nightstand for your listening pleasure. She expected to bring that to a beach and have a crowd of 50 people hear it over the crashing waves and also the additional element of playing it against the wind. Yes, that happened. I watched it. To make matters worse, the bride gave the responsibility of running it to someone who had no idea how to operate an Ipod. As you can imagine, it went badly and the rest of the ceremony went without music. The death of wedding number one. Beautiful couple, nice as can be, but I’m sure she would want you to learn from her bad experience.
For Wedding Two, a hired DJ who goes by the name of a farm animal thought enough to make sure that there was a PA for the Ipod to play through. However, it stopped working mere minutes before the ceremony was to start, but then magically started working again seconds before the wedding party proceeded down the beach path. There were 3 songs to play during the ceremony entrances; one for the parents/grandparents, one for the bridal party, and one for the bride.
Once the Ipod started working again, the DJ began the song for the parents/grandparents entrance, but neither he (or the wedding planner) accounted for the fact that a couple of the grandparents had to trudge through 15 feet of soft white sand with canes and walkers to get to their seats. So as their song came to an end, the bridal party song began to play before the grandparents were even seated. The DJ then proceeded to holler (no joke) up to the bride on the dune to ask what he should do and the bride hollered back (no joke) that he should play the parent song again. The DJ clicked the back button once which then started to play the bridal party song from the beginning again (and not the parent song which was the track before it). Three seconds in, the DJ realized it was still the bridal party song and, yet again, clicked the back button only one time which again started the bridal party track over. He then realized that he must click the button twice and on that third try, the parents song started again. Less than 10 seconds later, the parents and grandparents were all seated. And there was yet one more instance as the wedding came to a close and the newly married bride and groom walked back down the aisle…to the bridal party entrance song. The death of wedding #2.
Forget The Ipods
When I first heard the ramblings of wedding DJ’s and bands discussing how bad Ipod weddings were, your first gut reaction is to assume monetary reasons. And while that may be true, I personally watched 2 out of 3 weddings die a very painful and embarrassing death at the hands of Ipods and quickly realized that out of all of the corners you can cut, this should not be one of them. Most people will say to themselves, “Oh, but I’ll make sure that the person running it knows what they’re doing.” and I can guarantee that little to almost no thought was put into the music at the first two weddings I attended. People who opt for an Ipod wedding not only expect to save money, but also time in their wedding planning when the exact opposite is true. If you opt for an Ipod wedding, expect the worst, because it’s much better to have a band or DJ thinking about the music and not you as the bride. While there was a DJ involved in the second wedding, his utter lack of professionalism created an audio fiasco and great embarrassment for the bride.
If you’re a bride planning a wedding, please opt for a wedding DJ or band instead of an Ipod. There are ALWAYS mistakes that happen and it’s just a matter of how noticeable they are. And if you hire a DJ, find out what he/she will be doing for each moment of the event and how they’ll be doing it. A professional wedding DJ will know how to handle a difficult situation as it occurs and won’t need to involve you or your guests in doing their job. Just stay away from Ipods in your weddings, because they are simply an awful choice. This is your big day, so don’t leave it in the hands of technology that’s designed for personal use.
So, Get Married did something really cool and has somehow arranged to get an exclusive MP3 download called Walk With You from Edwin McCain’s upcoming The Best of Edwin McCain album. And you can’t get it anywhere else until April 22nd. Edwin’s song I’ll Be is already a wedding staple, but now he’s released this tune for his “best of” collection that I’m sure will end up being the standard for daddy/daughter dances everywhere.
For those looking for that perfect song for the father-daughter dance, Walk With You would be it. And you can get it for free from here at http://www.getmarried.com/edwin-mccain-download/ before it’s even available to the public. The album doesn’t even drop until April 22nd, so this is pretty cool. And free is even more cool.
